Mods vs External Tools

Iron Nest’s “mod” scene is different from most games. Because the game is a precise simulation, the community’s tools are mostly external calculators that run alongside the game rather than mods that change it.

There is no confirmed official mod support or Steam Workshop at launch. What exists are third-party aids.

Iron Nest Aide (Nexus Mods)

The best-known tool is the Iron Nest Aide on Nexus Mods — a ballistic calculator that does the elevation/bearing math for you, so you can skip the manual calculation step and still fire accurately.

This matters because the in-game calculator requires you to work through the formula (range × 12 ÷ charges) yourself. An external aide speeds that up.

Community Tools

Beyond the Nexus tool, players share:

  • Ballistic spreadsheets that pre-compute elevation for common ranges and charge counts.
  • Range-reference cards for the grid scale (one large square ≈ 1 km, one sub-square ≈ 100 m).

Note: the exact tool names and features change as the community builds them. Check the Nexus Mods page and the Steam Discussions for the current list rather than relying on any single tool.

What This Means for You

You don’t need any tool to play — the Triangulation guide and the Powder Charges guide cover the manual math. External tools just save time once you understand what the numbers mean.
