What Counter-Battery Is
In Iron Nest, the enemy has artillery of their own. When they start shooting back at your position, you enter a counter-battery situation: a timer runs while enemy guns fire on you, and it does not stop until you silence them.
Why the Timer Won’t Stop
The most common complaint is the counter-fire timer running out because players don’t realize what stops it. The timer is tied to the enemy guns themselves — as long as they’re alive, they keep firing and the clock keeps ticking.
How to Stop It
- Read the incoming-fire reports at the Field Intelligence typewriter.
- Triangulate the enemy gun positions using the same plotting methods as any target (see the Triangulation guide).
- Destroy the enemy artillery with a suitable shell (AP or HE, depending on whether they’re armored or exposed).
- Once the guns are down, the counter-fire stops.
The loop is the same as every other target — the difference is that the enemy is shooting back while you work.
Counter-Battery Gold Medal
The Counter-Battery mission’s gold medal is one of the harder ones:
- Triple kill within a 10-second window
- Counter-battery score ≥ 260
- Quartermaster spend ≤ 30
- Kills: 9 or 10 (sources disagree on this one number)
See the Gold Medal guide for the full list.
